The General Services Administration (GSA) has launched a new government-wide tool called USAi.gov, which allows federal agencies to test and experiment with various artificial intelligence models from top firms like Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, and Meta. This launch is part of the Trump administration’s efforts to increase AI integration into federal government workspaces.
The USAi platform provides a suite of tools for federal workers to automate time-consuming tasks, such as document summaries, and gives government officials access to leading AI models. The GSA will act as a curator, determining which models are available for testing on the platform, with additional models being considered through input from industry partners.
Once an agency tests a model on USAi, it can procure it from the federal marketplace or continue to use the platform for further evaluation. This launch coincides with the GSA’s rehaul of the federal procurement process and is part of its efforts to consolidate purchasing and offer discounted prices to federal agencies.
The USAi platform is designed to build trust among federal users by providing a range of models from different vendors, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. Agency administrators can view data-based evaluations for the models to determine which are best suited for their specific use cases.
Key features of the USAi platform include:
* Chatbot testing features
* API testing capabilities
* Data-based model evaluations
* Discounts on AI products for federal agencies
The GSA has announced collaborations with firms like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Box to offer discounted prices to federal agencies. The launch of USAi is part of the White House’s AI Action Plan, which calls for an “AI procurement toolbox” to encourage uniformity across federal agencies.
The platform is available to all civilian federal agencies, along with the Defense Department, and has undergone three evaluations prior to its launch, including safety, performance, and durability testing.
