Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto V will receive a free PC upgrade on March 4, adding features previously available only in the console versions. The update includes improved graphics, ray-tracing capabilities, faster loading times, and support for DualSense Wireless Controllers.
The upgraded version of GTA 5 will also feature enhanced player improvements for GTA Online, including kernel-based anti-cheat protection and proactive voice chat moderation. Players who download the free upgrade can migrate their Story Mode and Online progress to the new version.
To ensure compatibility with the updated game, Rockstar has shared minimum and recommended system requirements. The minimum specifications require a 105GB SSD or DirectStorage-compatible drive, while the recommended specs call for an Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor.
The free upgrade comes ahead of the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Although a PC version of GTA 6 is expected to arrive later, in early 2026, this update will provide PC players with access to console-exclusive features.
