Rockstar Games has finally addressed the numerous graphical issues and glitches plaguing its classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The improvements, previously found in the mobile port launched via Netflix, have been rolled out across all platforms.
The most notable update is the inclusion of Classic Lighting, a feature that restores the brighter and more colorful visuals from the games’ original versions. This can be enabled by default in each game’s pause menu, much to fans’ delight. Character models have also been improved, along with visual enhancements for heat haze and ambient clouds.
The trilogy’s disastrous launch three years ago led to widespread criticism, with many players requesting refunds due to the game’s buggy state. Rockstar quickly pulled the game offline and began providing patches, but issues persisted. The company apologized and offered a free game for PC owners, but problems continued to surface.
Digital Foundry noted at the time that “there are a lot of problems here” and “issues that are so blatant and jarring and ridiculous.” Despite these challenges, Rockstar has now delivered on its promise to improve the trilogy. With this update, fans can finally enjoy a smoother gaming experience with improved visuals and reduced bugs.
