GTA VI Sales Projected to Exceed $3 Billion, Reach 100 Million Copies Sold

Market research firm DFC Intelligence predicts Grand Theft Auto VI will break sales records and sell tens of millions of copies in its first year, with total sales reaching over $3 billion. The game’s long-term success is expected to contribute to a faster initial sales surge compared to previous Rockstar titles.

GTA V, released in 2013, set the stage for GTA VI’s market entry. At launch, Sony and Xbox had sold around 66 million PS5 and Xbox Series X|S units, comparable to the number of PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles sold at that time. However, DFC believes GTA V’s 11-year sales history will lead to stronger initial sales for GTA VI.

“Sales should pass $1 billion before it is released via pre-orders,” said DFC founder David Cole. The firm forecasts an additional $2.2 billion in sales during the first year, ending in November 2026.

GTA V’s long-term success can be attributed to its continued relevance and a resurgence in sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rockstar also released GTA Online alongside GTA V, which attracted hundreds of thousands of players despite a rough launch.

DFC predicts an increase in sales when new next-generation consoles are launched by Sony and Microsoft. By comparison, GTA V sold 200 million copies in 11 years. The firm forecasts 100 million copies of GTA VI sold by the end of its fifth year, with total sales exceeding $3 billion.
