Meanwhile, Argentina is withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO) due to “profound differences” with the agency. The decision follows President Trump’s executive order to pull the US out of the WHO. Argentina provides only a fraction of the WHO’s total budget and has the flexibility to not follow guidelines.
The racial gap in maternal mortality rates widened last year, with Black women dying at nearly 3.5 times the rate of white women. Maternal mortality fell below pre-pandemic levels despite this increase.
