Gunmen Kill At Least Three Journalists at Haiti’s Largest Public Hospital

Gunmen attacked Haiti’s largest public hospital in Port-au-Prince, killing at least three people, including two journalists and a police officer. The attack occurred during the reopening of the hospital wing on Tuesday morning.

According to witnesses and the president of Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council, armed men fired on reporters gathered for the ceremony. A local gang leader named Johnson (Izo) AndrĂ© claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media video.

The violence is part of a broader crisis in Haiti, where gangs have been blamed for 207 executions in an impoverished neighborhood last week. The United Nations reported over 5,358 people killed and 2,155 injured in gang-related violence this year alone.

Hospitals have also been targeted, with medical equipment destroyed by armed gangs in another incident this week. Haiti’s healthcare system is struggling due to escalating violence, according to a UN report.
