Guy Ritchie is set to direct Road House 2 at Amazon MGM Studios, with Jake Gyllenhaal on board to reprise his role as Dalton. The film’s plot details are under wraps, but the news was first announced during Amazon’s Upfronts presentation.
Will Beall has penned the script, with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner producing for Atlas Entertainment, alongside Gyllenhaal and Josh McLaughlin of Nine Stories Productions. Ivan Atkinson will executive produce.
Ritchie takes over directing duties from Doug Liman, who expressed frustration with Amazon MGM’s decision to release his Road House straight to streaming. The film went on to achieve big success upon its SXSW premiere, attracting nearly 80 million viewers in its first eight weeks on Prime Video.
The project reunites Ritchie and Gyllenhaal, who previously collaborated on Amazon MGM’s action-thriller The Covenant. Roven is also back on board with the studio, having produced Chris Pratt’s sci-fi thriller Mercy, set for release in theaters next year.
Ritchie has several upcoming projects in development, including a new season of his Netflix series The Gentlemen and the Paramount+ crime drama Mobland, starring Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren.
