Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has abandoned her years-long adherence to the strict Paleo diet in favor of a more balanced approach, incorporating carbs, cheese, and pasta into her meals. On “The Goop Podcast,” released Tuesday, Paltrow attributed her decision to cut out whole food groups due to concerns about inflammation and her genetic risk for Alzheimer’s disease.
Under the Paleo diet, which aims to replicate the eating habits of hunters and gatherers from the Paleolithic era, followers typically consume fruits, vegetables, nuts, lean meats, and fish while eliminating dairy products, sugar, grains, legumes, and highly processed foods. However, Paltrow confessed that she was “sick” of the restrictive diet.
“I’m getting back into eating some sourdough bread and some cheese,” she said. “There, I said it. A little pasta.”
Paltrow’s decision has been praised by Priya Tew, a specialist dietitian with the British Dietetic Association. “It sounds like Gwyneth is moving towards a more balanced and nutritious diet… We need diversity and variety to help us meet all our nutritional needs,” Tew said.
The actress has previously followed other strict diets, including macrobiotics, which aims to avoid foods containing toxins. However, Tew disputed the idea that these diets can prevent or cure diseases like cancer.
“Carbohydrates are a vital part of our diets… They provide fibre, B vitamins and energy,” she explained. “They also bring taste and enjoyment to meals.”
