US-based temporary work visa holders have received emails informing them that their visas have been “prudentially revoked” amid delays in scheduling interviews in India for H-1B visa applications. This move comes as the US enhances social media scrutiny of applicants, previously only applied to international students.
A prudential visa revocation is a temporary measure taken by the government due to concerns over the applicant’s eligibility. It doesn’t affect an individual’s lawful status in the US but means that their application will be re-examined at their next scheduled appointment. The revocation allows them to remain in the country, but they cannot re-enter even if the visa has not expired.
According to immigration expert Emily Neumann, many previously cleared issues are being re-reviewed, which “hardly seems like an efficient use of government resources.”
