Haidilao Compensates 4,000 Diners for Urine-Contaminated Hot Pot

A Chinese hot pot giant has offered compensation to over 4,000 diners after a video of two men urinating in broth at one of its restaurants went viral online. The incident occurred on February 24 but was only discovered four days later by the company.

Haidilao, which operates over 1,400 restaurants globally, confirmed that the case revealed inadequate training procedures leading to staff failure to detect the situation promptly. The company has reported the incident to local authorities and filed a civil lawsuit application against two men, both 17 years old.

The police have detained the suspects, and the company’s statement acknowledges that compensation cannot fully restore the distress caused to customers. Haidilao will take responsibility for the incident and is willing to compensate its customers for their inconvenience.

Chinese hot pot chains are popular globally, with Haidilao being one of the most recognized brands. The company has taken steps to address the issue and ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
