China’s largest hotpot chain, Haidilao, has offered compensation to over 4,000 customers who visited one of its Shanghai branches after two teenagers urinated into their soup broth. The incident occurred last month and was caught on camera. The company apologized, replacing all equipment and disinfecting crockery, but acknowledged that the staff failed to stop the teens at the time.
Haidilao expanded quickly since its first restaurant in Sichuan province and now operates over 1,000 locations worldwide. The chain is known for its customer service and family-friendly atmosphere. The company has offered a full refund and cash compensation of 10 times the amount customers were billed to those who dined between February 24th and March 8th.
