Haley Joel Osment Apologizes After Using Antisemitic Slur During Arrest

Former child star and actor Haley Joel Osment has apologized for using an antisemitic slur against a law enforcement officer during his arrest at a California ski resort. The 37-year-old, who is best known for his roles in “The Sixth Sense” and “Blink Twice”, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and cocaine possession.

Osment’s arrest came after he became belligerent with a police officer, using profanity and making threats before hurling the antisemitic slur. The incident occurred at Mammoth Mountain ski resort in April.

In a statement released hours after police body cam footage surfaced, Osment expressed remorse for his actions. He said he had “no excuse” for using the slur and acknowledged that it was unacceptable. Osment attributed his behavior to his emotional state, citing months of loss and displacement as contributing factors.

He also apologized to the Jewish community, stating that he has “let them down”. The actor emphasized that he does not expect forgiveness but promises to make amends.

Osment’s statement comes after a history of run-ins with law enforcement. In 2006, he was charged with misdemeanor drunk driving after crashing his car. More recently, in 2018, he sparked a police response at the Las Vegas airport for allegedly making verbal threats against American Airlines staff.

The actor is set to be arraigned in July at the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Superior Court.
