Haley Joel Osment Apologizes for Antisemitic Slur in Arrest Video

Haley Joel Osment, an Oscar nominee, is facing backlash after using an antisemitic slur against a police officer during his arrest on suspicion of public intoxication at a California ski resort. The bodycam video shows Osment uttering the slur after being taken into custody.

In a statement obtained by People, Osment expressed remorse over his behavior, saying he was “absolutely horrified” and “devastated.” He claimed to be unaware of what he said until seeing the footage and acknowledged that his recent struggles with loss and displacement have contributed to his emotional state.

Osment also stated that his use of the slur doesn’t justify it and expressed regret for hurting the Jewish community, stating, “What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage – I’ve let the Jewish community down.” He apologized profusely, promising to atone for his mistake.

The 37-year-old actor is facing charges of misdemeanor public intoxication and cocaine possession. Osment’s previous run-ins with the law include a 2006 DUI stemming from a car crash that broke his rib, resulting in three years’ probation.
