Half Life 3 fans have been buzzing with anticipation over holiday period leaks suggesting a possible announcement in the coming weeks or by the end of this year. While previous leaks were nothing new, recent ones appear more credible, including one from Valve insider Gabe Follower. The insider revealed that a build of Half Life 3 was being tested internally at Valve alongside developers’ friends and family.
Gabe Follower also claims to have heard from a source within Valve that a closed playtest for Half Life 3 has begun. Closed playtests are common practice for Valve, as seen in the development of Half Life Alyx and Deadlock. The upcoming year’s message from voice actor Mike Shapiro, who played G Man in the series, also hints at something related to Half Life being released this year.
Shapiro’s recent tweet with hashtags #Valve, #Halflife, and #GMan2025 suggests he may be involved in a new project within the franchise. Given his silence on X since Half Life Alyx’s release, the tweet seems out of character unless something is brewing.
While a full announcement has yet to materialize, it appears that Valve is actively working on Half Life 3, and we can expect some news by 2025 at the latest. With past playtests leading to significant changes in Valve games, let’s hope this project unfolds smoothly to meet its expected release window.
