Sterling Sharpe, Shannon Sharpe, Eric Allen, Jared Allen, and Antonio Gates were inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. The event marked a significant milestone for the new class, who are the first brothers to be enshrined together.
Sterling Sharpe, a Green Bay Packers wide receiver, was presented with his Super Bowl ring by his younger brother Shannon, while Jared Allen, a Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings defensive end, reflected on his motivation for success. “My why can be summed up in three things: fear, respect, and the pursuit of greatness,” he said.
Eric Allen, a six-time Pro Bowl cornerback, credited his upbringing in Philadelphia with shaping him into the person he is today. He also thanked Raiders owner Mark Davis, who had instilled the commitment to excellence that guides the team’s efforts.
Antonio Gates, an undrafted tight end from Kent State, was presented by Chargers owner Dean Spanos and expressed gratitude for the opportunity coach Tim Brewster gave him to play in the NFL. “Coach Tim Brewster saw something special in me,” he said. “He was pretty sure that I could make the team.”
The new class joins a prestigious group of football legends, with Sterling Sharpe averaging 85 catches and 1,162 yards per year over seven seasons, while Jared Allen recorded 136 sacks in 12 seasons.
