Hand-Built Bikes Shine at Made Show 2025

The annual Made Show, held in Portland, Oregon, is a haven for cyclists and fans to witness the artistry and craftsmanship of hand-built bikes. Dozens of artisanal bike builders and small component brands gathered under one roof, showcasing their attention to detail and commitment to customization.

From stainless bottles with paint-to-match Bivo designs to machined aluminum components, each exhibit highlights the makers’ dedication to meeting individual cyclists’ needs or artistic visions. Black Cat’s steel truss link is a notable example, visually tying into the Mystery Spot’s unique twin tube chainstay arrangement.

Custom stems were also on display, featuring hidden bolts and nifty designs from Schön Studio and Bantam Bicycles. Bridge the Gap Designs, founded by Bre Rue, offers creative solutions to common mechanic and cyclist problems.

Fukushima-based Tobukumo showcased a stunning steel full-suspension bike, while Buendia Bicycles’ Greg deBoer is known for his love of Spurcycle’s loud bell. The Mosaic RT-Zero and Seeker gravel bikes combine titanium and carbon, aiming to achieve the holy grail of ride quality.

Three notable mentions include Blaze’s machined titanium dropouts, VPL’s Schwift SchArt electric concept bike with an eye-catching front hub, and Josh Ogle’s 3D-printed one-of-a-kind bike. Small personal touches, such as seatstay caps and UFOs on bikes from Sycip and Mischief, set custom builders apart from big brands.

The Made Show is a celebration of the hand-built bicycle community, where attention to detail, craftsmanship, and creativity come together in the pursuit of perfection.
