Haribo is recalling one-kilo bags of its Happy Cola F!ZZ candy in the Netherlands after cannabis was found in some of them, according to the country’s food and consumer product safety authority. Several people, including children, became unwell after eating the contaminated candy.
Samples taken from the cola bottles revealed that the product was laced with cannabis, prompting an investigation by Dutch police. Haribo is recalling bags with a best-before date of January 2026 as a precautionary measure. The company claims only three bags were found to be contaminated so far.
This incident highlights the risk of candy becoming contaminated with illegal drugs, which are not uncommon in Jamaica and other countries where such incidents have occurred in recent years.
