Harness has made its Harness AI Test Automation tool generally available as the industry’s first AI-native, end-to-end test automation solution. The tool introduces “intent-based testing,” a revolutionary approach where users describe what they want tested in natural language rather than writing test scripts.
The AI agent then figures out how to execute and validate the tests, even when UIs change. This approach addresses the bottleneck in traditional testing processes, which can take weeks or months compared to hours for code generation. Harness AI Test Automation is designed to meet the speed, scale, and resilience demanded by modern DevOps, enabling enterprises to replace outdated test frameworks with a seamless, AI-powered solution.
The tool enables software development teams to deliver quality software faster, as traditional testing methods struggled to keep up – it’s too manual, fragile, and slow. Harness has seen significant productivity improvements, including one project manager building 55 automated tests in just 2.5 weeks, and early users experiencing a 10 times faster test creation.
Harness AI Test Automation uses natural language prompts to execute, data generation, and outcome verification, with the AI adapting automatically when UI changes break traditional scripts. The company’s head of business, Sushil Kumar, acknowledged that Google’s 2024 DORA report found software delivery slowed down despite AI productivity gains because testing couldn’t keep up. However, Harness has achieved up to 90% reduction in test creation time for its customers.
