The former home of late jeweler Harry Winston has finally sold after years on the market, closing on Wednesday for $24.5 million. The “King of Diamonds” had bought and lived in the apartment from 1951 to 1976 before selling it to Judith Hernstadt.
Located on the ninth floor of a 12-story co-op building on Fifth Avenue, the apartment offers stunning views of Central Park from its formal dining room and living room with a wood-burning fireplace. The 5,700-square-foot space features an eat-in kitchen, a wood-paneled library with custom built-ins, and original herringbone floors and plaster moldings.
Residents tend to stay in this building for at least half their lives due to its excellent location, according to listing agent Louise Beit of Sotheby’s International Realty. The new buyer is reportedly a young family moving into the apartment, which had been on and off the market since 2019 with several price cuts before reaching $24.5 million.
The building was designed by Warren and Wetmore in 1917 and features one of only 12 full-floor units.
