A mistrial was declared in Harvey Weinstein’s sex crimes trial after one juror refused to continue deliberations on a final rape charge. The jury had found Weinstein guilty of one count of sexual assault and not guilty of another count earlier in the trial, but were stuck on the last charge.
Weinstein faces multiple charges, including a third trial for a rape charge brought by actress Jessica Mann. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said his office plans to retry the case, with Mann stating she is willing to testify again.
Tensions rose during deliberations, with jurors reporting “attacking” and yelling at each other. The foreperson warned of further conflict, leading Judge Curtis Farber to declare a mistrial on the last charge.
Weinstein’s previous conviction was overturned due to alleged juror misconduct. He has been accused by over 100 women of sexual misconduct, assault, and rape, with a California conviction likely resulting in a life sentence.
The trial follows Weinstein’s earlier convictions in New York and Los Angeles, where he received a 16-year sentence yet remains incarcerated.
