The 5th-ranked Hawaii Rainbow Warriors suffered their first loss in three sets this season when they fell to 9th-ranked California State University, Northridge (CSUN) on Friday. The Matadors took the match in straight sets, winning 25-17, 25-20, and 25-20.
Hawaii led early in the first set but struggled with serving and hitting, ultimately falling behind 13-10 after a hitting percentage of just .045. The ‘Bows were also plagued by 7 kills and 6 attacking errors, which contributed to their loss in the first frame.
In the second set, Hawaii’s struggles continued, as they committed 8 more attacking errors and fell behind 14-0. The Matadors took the set 25-20, putting them up 2-0 in the match.
Despite trailing 22-20 in the third set, CSUN was able to close out the match with a final win of 25-20. Kristian Titriyski led Hawaii with 14 kills, while Adrien Roure added just 5 kills for the ‘Bows.
Hawaii will have another chance to take down CSUN on Saturday at 3:00pm HT, looking to bounce back from their first loss in three sets this season.
