A top health insurance provider, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, has scrapped its plan to limit anesthesia coverage for surgical patients. The proposal, which would have required patients to pay out-of-pocket for any additional anesthesia after a predetermined time limit, was met with widespread criticism. Following public backlash, the company cited “significant widespread misinformation” about the policy as the reason for its withdrawal. The move comes after the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan on Wednesday. Anthem had announced plans to implement this cap for customers in Connecticut, New York, and Missouri, but has now abandoned it altogether.
