Health Insurers See Big Gains Amid Medicare Advantage Plan Hikes

Three major health insurance companies – Humana Inc, UnitedHealth Group, and CVS Health – are seeing significant gains in their shares today. The increase is attributed to a government proposal that could potentially raise payments for Medicare Advantage plans in 2026. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), these payments could increase by an average of 4.3% with an additional 2.2% for expected adjustments in patient risk scores.

In contrast, previous years saw insurers claim that rates were too low to cover healthcare costs. However, today’s positive news takes precedence over the recent wildfires in California, which negatively affected insurance stocks. The shares of these three companies have seen substantial increases: Humana rose 6.5%, CVS Health gained 4.8%, and UnitedHealth Group saw a 4.49% increase.
