Health Secretary Kennedy to Visit Texas Amidst Measles Outbreak

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is planning a surprise visit to Lubbock, Texas, after the state reported a second potential measles-related child death. The investigation into the first death in February has not yet concluded. This trip comes as Texas leads the nation with 481 reported measles cases since late January.

Kennedy’s decision has drawn criticism for his stance on vaccines and measles prevention. His visit is seen as a response to the outbreak, which is being closely monitored by the Department of Health and Human Services. The White House was informed of his travel plans, which coincide with the recent tragedy.

The situation highlights Texas’ struggles with measles, as it has reported the nation’s highest number of cases since late January. The state’s first confirmed child death from measles occurred on February 26. This issue is being closely watched, particularly after Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser joined a coalition of states in suing the Department of Health and Human Services over the termination of $11 billion in public health grants, including $229 million earmarked for his state.
