At 67, Dr. Scott Schubach, a heart surgeon from Long Island, has embarked on a new challenge in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood. He left his suburban life behind to take on a leadership role at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, expanding the cardiac program and bringing complex heart surgeries closer to home for Brooklynites.
Dr. Schubach had spent 33 years working as a heart surgeon in Nassau County, but two years ago, he felt it was time for a change. He wanted to stay active and be part of growth, rather than retiring. The opportunity to lead the cardiac program at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn presented itself, and he couldn’t resist.
The new role means Dr. Schubach will live in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, where he recently signed a lease for his apartment. He chose the area for its diversity and proximity to the hospital, which is only three miles away. Despite initial concerns about parking, he found a suitable building with amenities such as a gym and rooftop deck.
Dr. Schubach’s decision to move to Brooklyn was motivated by his desire to be part of growth and excitement. He enjoys the people who work in his building and appreciates the energy of the neighborhood. His children and girlfriend are also settled in the area, making it an ideal location for him.
As he starts this new chapter in his life, Dr. Schubach is excited to bring more opportunities to Brooklynites. The expansion of the cardiac program will make a range of heart surgeries available at the hospital, which will be a significant improvement over what was previously offered. With his leadership role and commitment to growth, Dr. Schubach is eager to make a positive impact on the community.
