Heat Pump Ownership Grows as Homeowners Embrace Energy Efficiency

A recent survey by Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC found that heat pump ownership has increased among U.S. homeowners since 2023, with 90% of respondents who own a heat pump recommending it to others. The METUS Heat Pumps & Homeowners Index reveals the top benefits of owning a heat pump system: greater energy efficiency (55%), better heating (41%), and cost savings (39%). Surveys also found that 93% of homeowners with conventional HVAC systems are concerned about utility bills, while 88% believe heat pumps are more energy efficient than traditional systems.

The survey also shows an increase in self-reported knowledge of heat pumps among respondents, with 32% having a good understanding of the technology compared to 23% last year. Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC CEO Mark Kuntz attributes this growth to increased education about heat pump benefits and potential tax credits and rebates. As homeowners become more informed, they are likely to install all-electric, all-climate sustainable HVAC systems in their homes.
