Heisman Winner Travis Hunter Credits Family in Emotional Acceptance Speech

College football star and Colorado wide receiver Travis Hunter has won the prestigious Heisman Trophy, marking his school’s second win in the award’s history. The 21-year-old athlete accepted the honor on Saturday at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

During his emotional acceptance speech, Hunter expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and coaches. He dedicated a heartfelt message to his father, Travis Sr., who opted not to attend the ceremony due to health reasons but was in attendance via video call through Hunter’s grandmother, Shirley Hunter.

Hunter shared that he did it for his father, saying “I love you” and thanking him for all the sacrifices made by his family. He also gave a shout-out to his grandmother, crediting her with encouraging him to start playing football at just 4 years old.

This season, Hunter dominated on the field, catching 92 passes for 14 touchdowns and 1,152 yards, while also intercepting four passes and breaking up 11. His impressive performance helped Colorado finish with a 9-3 record and reach the Alamo Bowl.

Hunter’s win marks another milestone in his already accomplished career, which includes gifting his mother a new home and surprising his then-girlfriend with a Tesla. The couple recently confirmed their wedding date for May 24, 2025.
