Travis Hunter Jr., the winner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy in December, has been granted permission by the courts to attend the upcoming NFL Draft with his father, Travis Hunter Sr. Hunter Sr. was initially restricted from attending due to gun and drug charges, but he recently received a court-ordered release.
Hunter Sr., 39, is scheduled to leave West Palm Beach on April 23 and return on April 26, after being sentenced to 90 days in late September 2024 for his involvement in gun and drug charges. He was released from the Palm Beach County West Detention Center nine days before the Heisman ceremony but was unable to attend.
Hunter Jr.’s mother, Shirley Hunter, expressed her pride over her son’s court-ordered release, stating that it allowed Travis Sr. to attend the draft. The two are expected to celebrate together at the NFL Draft in Green Bay, where Hunter Jr. will be selected by the Cleveland Browns, a position most believe he will take with the second overall pick.
During his emotional Heisman ceremony speech, Hunter Jr. dedicated his award to his father and expressed his love for him. The younger Hunter had been unable to attend the event due to his father’s absence but hoped to bring the trophy home as a symbol of their bond.
