Jake Nurkin, a junior majoring in computer science, won second place in Hendrix-Murphy Foundation’s annual student and alumni playwright competition for his play “Backwoods Beast”. The play explores the dangers of obsession and isolation. Despite being one of his first plays, “Backwoods Beast” showcases Nurkin’s writing skills and warns against letting curiosity consume us. As a non-playwriting major, Nurkin credits his liberal arts education with discovering his passion for computer science. He continues to balance art and science through his involvement in theater groups like the Hendrix Players.
