Hertz to Sell Pre-Owned Cars on Amazon Autos

Hertz will start selling pre-owned cars on Amazon Autos, expanding its retail operations and aiming to boost profits. The move allows customers within a 75-mile radius of four major cities – Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Seattle – to browse thousands of used Hertz vehicles online starting Wednesday.

The partnership enables customers to e-sign paperwork, complete their purchase online, and pick up their vehicle at Hertz locations. Hertz plans to expand the arrangement to 45 locations nationwide in the future.

Hertz’s foray into Amazon Autos marks an expansion for the e-commerce giant’s autos business, which launched in December through a partnership with Hyundai. The move aims to increase visibility and profit for Hertz’s auto sales business, while also giving customers more convenience and scale.

Hertz sells hundreds of thousands of vehicles per year, in addition to its car rental business. The company has seen strong momentum in its Rent2Buy program, which allows customers to take a used car home for a three-day rental period before committing to buying it.

The partnership with Amazon Autos is part of Hertz’s larger strategy to boost its retail business and increase its retail footprint. The move comes after the company introduced its “Back-to-Basics Roadmap” turnaround plan earlier this year, focusing on fleet management, revenue optimization, and cost efficiency.
