A recent study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology has found that high levels of HDL cholesterol, often referred to as “good” cholesterol, are actually associated with an increased risk of developing glaucoma. In contrast, elevated levels of LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides have been linked to a reduced risk. The study, which analyzed data from over 400,000 participants in the UK Biobank, found that high HDL cholesterol levels were not consistently associated with a favorable outcome, contradicting decades of previous assumptions about its benefits.
