Highland Park wrestling star Dana Holt is a senior at 155 pounds who has dominated the season with an impressive 18-2 record. Recently, she secured a first-place finish at Rickover and Niles West invites. The 18-year-old wrestler shared her passion for the sport in an exclusive Q&A session.
Holt’s prematch rituals include warming up thoroughly before competition and listening to music. She also has a unique superstition of wearing mismatched socks.
As for her future, Holt plans to attend college and major in psychology, with aspirations to become a clinical child psychologist. Wrestling has not only helped her develop strength but also provided an opportunity to connect with like-minded friends.
Holt’s love for wrestling stems from its physical and mental challenges. She appreciates the camaraderie and sense of community within the sport. In fact, she has met several of her best friends through wrestling.
If given the chance, Holt would try rugby, which she believes would be a natural fit due to her athletic build. Her strength and technique have been key factors in her success on the mat.
Outside of wrestling, Holt is passionate about photography, particularly sport photography. She spends most of her free time capturing moments from various sports events.
When it comes to everyday life, Holt’s go-to purchase at Walgreens would be a protein shake or bar. Few people know that she has a hidden talent for photography, which began on the track team and has since evolved into a school project.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Holt is confident about her chances of reaching state and placing within the top six. Despite a concussion-cut short her season last year, she feels prepared to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.
