In a rare occurrence, all four top-seeded teams will advance to the 2005 NCAA men’s tournament Final Four in San Antonio. This is just the second time in history that top seeds have made it to the semifinals, with the previous instance happening in 2008 when North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, and Memphis qualified for the final four.
Auburn, as the No. 1 seed, defeated Michigan State 75-68 in Atlanta on Sunday, completing the sweep of top-seeded teams. Houston followed suit by routing Tennessee in Indianapolis, while Florida held off Texas Tech to secure their spot in the semifinals. Duke then took care of business against Alabama.
This year’s Final Four marks a historic occasion as all four No. 1 seeds will face each other. Kansas defeated North Carolina and Memphis eliminated UCLA, marking significant moments in the history of March Madness. The NCAA committee on infractions previously punished Memphis for violating rules due to Derrick Rose’s eligibility issues.
The matchups for the semifinals are set: Auburn vs Florida and Houston vs Duke. The winners will advance to the national championship game, which is scheduled to take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio on April 5.
