HIV-positive Man Charged with Murder After Wife’s Death

A metro Atlanta man has been indicted on murder charges in connection with his wife’s death from AIDS-related complications. Cleveland Broadie, who was already facing charges of reckless conduct related to the incident, is now also charged with malice murder and felony murder.

Broadie had known he was HIV-positive since 2006 but failed to disclose it to his sexual partners, prosecutors allege. His wife, Denise Broadie, died in 2022 after years of struggling with cancer and AIDS. Doctors diagnosed her with breast cancer in 2017 and again in 2019, but she eventually developed AIDS.

Broadie was initially arrested on July 8, 2023, on one count of reckless conduct, related to an unprotected sex act without disclosing his status. After a woman came forward claiming he had also had unprotected sex with her, prosecutors filed additional charges. The case involves multiple women who reported being unaware of Broadie’s HIV status.

Broadie has pleaded not guilty to the original three counts of reckless conduct and has yet to enter a plea on the new malice and felony murder charges.
