HMD Launches Nokia Smart Band, But Is it for Kids or Adults?

HMD, the company behind the revived Nokia brand, has reportedly been working on a smart band that could finally bring back a minimalist smartwatch to the market. However, recent leaks have revealed the device is actually designed for kids.

The leaked specs of the HMD Rubber series show two devices: the HMD RUBBER 1 and the HMD RUBBER 1S. Both feature a water-resistant design, Bluetooth connectivity, and Wear OS operating system. The HMD RUBBER 1 boasts an 1.85-inch OLED display, while the smaller HDM RUBBER 1S has a 1.07-inch display.

The devices’ battery life is expected to be around 400mAh and 290mAh, respectively, which may raise concerns about its performance given Wear OS’s notorious battery drain issues. The use of NFC and Qi wireless charging also suggests a premium design.

While the HMD Rubber series shows promise, it’s unclear whether these devices will appeal to adult consumers or remain popular among parents who want to keep tabs on their kids’ location. One thing is certain: HMD must navigate this fine line carefully to avoid repeating previous mistakes.
