HMD, the Android phone and tablet manufacturer, may be working on two smartwatches that could soon become contenders for our best smartwatches list. The devices are rumored to run on Wear OS and feature a camera attached to one of them.
According to tipster @smashx_60, via Notebookcheck, HMD is developing the HMD Rubber 1 and the HMD Rubber 1S, both with a focus on health tracking features such as heart rate and spO2 monitoring. The first model will come equipped with a 2MP camera, which could allow users to capture photos and videos from their wrist.
The smartwatches are expected to have a robust casing, with waterproofing up to 5 ATM, allowing them to withstand depths of up to 50 meters. This suggests they will have a durable design that can handle various environments.
While HMD has not made any official statements about the upcoming smartwatches, their development could be seen as an attempt to expand into the wearables market. With Wear OS 6 expected to be released in the next month or two, this might provide the necessary software foundation for these devices.
The leak also raises questions about the target audience for these smartwatches, with speculation that they might be intended for kids, rather than adults. However, no official confirmation has been made by HMD yet.
For now, we will have to wait and see what HMD has in store for us, but if their plans come to fruition, these smartwatches could offer an interesting alternative to existing Wear OS devices.
