Holiday Season Illness Spread: Expert Warns of Prevention Measures

Flu and RSV cases are on the rise, prompting health experts to remind people of crucial prevention measures when gathering with friends and family during the holiday season.

As more people travel and gather, the risk of spreading illness increases. According to Dr. Andrew Saal, assistant medical director of the Pima County Health Department, hand washing for 20-30 seconds is essential. Additionally, frequently cleaning commonly touched surfaces, covering coughs and sneezes, and keeping spaces well ventilated can help prevent the spread of disease.

The health expert also emphasizes the importance of staying home if symptoms of illness, such as fever, appear. This is particularly crucial during flu season, which is expected to last several more months. Getting vaccinated is also recommended as a preventative measure.

As people prepare for their holiday gatherings, it’s essential to take these precautions seriously to minimize the risk of spreading illness and protecting loved ones.
