Holiday Shopping Scams: How to Spot Fake Sites

This holiday season, scammers are on the prowl, targeting consumers with fake websites and scams. According to experts, Americans will spend up to $989 billion online, making it a prime target for scammers.

To spot a fake website, look out for misspelled URLs, such as “www.amaz0n.com” instead of amazon.com. Scammers may also create sites that resemble the real store but with slight variations in the domain name or using a forward slash to redirect you to a scam site. Always verify the URL after the slash matches the website you’re trying to land on.

When making payments, be cautious of peer-to-peer payment sites like Venmo or Zelle. Use these services only for trusted individuals and never divulge your account number or financial information. Smart shopping is safe shopping.
