Hollow Knight Fans Speculate Over Mysterious Development Activity

Hollow Knight fans are abuzz with speculation after co-director William Pellen’s cryptic social media activity sparked rumors about the highly anticipated game’s follow-up, Hollow Knight: Silksong. The news was first reported on a subreddit where fans noticed Pellen had changed his Twitter profile picture to a chocolate cake image and tweeted “something big is coming” on January 15.

Fans reverse-searched the image, which led them to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake published on Bon Appétit four years ago. The same date was also marked as the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct event in April 2025. Fans have also been analyzing Pellen’s new Twitter handle @everydruidwaswr and his name “little bomey,” which is similar to a wine from Southern Australia where Team Cherry is based.

However, marketing and publishing chief Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin has recently confirmed that there was no Silksong alternate reality game (ARG) behind Pellen’s activity. The changes were simply a marketing stunt, with Griffin stating “it was still some impressive sleuthing skills by the fans… like ya’ll are WAY beyond those 2020 riddles now.” Despite this, the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong remains uncertain.

Team Cherry initially confirmed that Silksong would be launched on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch six years ago. Fans will have to wait a few more months to find out what this recent activity means for the game’s future.
