Hollywood is gearing up for CinemaCon, but the international box office was a mixed bag over the weekend. Jason Statham-starrer “A Working Man” debuted with $30.2 million globally, including $15 million from overseas markets. On the other hand, Disney’s “Snow White” saw a 48% drop in offshore sales.
Gower Street Analytics has increased its global box office forecast for 2025 to $34.1 billion, largely thanks to the overperformance of Chinese blockbuster “Ne Zha 2.” The movie has grossed upwards of $50 million outside China and is expected to reach an estimated global cume of $2.15 billion.
“Snow White” remains the top studio movie globally, adding $22.1 million from 51 offshore markets. The movie now stands at $143.1 million internationally and $76.3 million overseas. Other countries where “Snow White” debuted as number one include Australia, Italy, Spain, UK, Brazil, and Mexico.
“A Working Man” was released in 41 overseas markets via Warner Bros. and another 22 markets through Black Bear. The combined international bow was $15 million, with China being the top performer at $2.9 million.
Other notable releases include Indian action thriller “L2: Empuraan,” which opened to around $20 million worldwide, and “Ne Zha 2,” which continues to perform well in China and globally. Warner Bros/Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” is set to start global play ahead of CinemaCon.
