Home Alone fans have long wondered how Kate and Peter McCallister, played by Catherine O’Hara and John Heard, could afford their massive suburban house in Chicago on a single income. Director Chris Columbus has finally revealed the truth.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Columbus confirmed that Kate was “a very successful fashion designer” who earned a good living, while Peter’s occupation remains unclear but is not believed to be involved in organized crime despite some fan theories. The filmmaker and screenwriter John Hughes had previously discussed their characters’ jobs during the film’s production.
The real-life McCallister house, which has been on the market for years, was recently sold to new owners for $5.25 million. Listing agents praised the home’s cinematic significance and its ability to evoke timeless holiday memories.
The sale marks 34 years since Home Alone first released in 1990, with the film remaining a staple of holiday viewing. In recent news, some of the actors who played Kevin’s siblings and cousins reunited for an event, while Macaulay Culkin made headlines for a bizarre appearance in a Kim Kardashian lo-fi music video.
