Amazon MGM has acquired the rights to the highly anticipated feature dramedy “Honeymoon with Harry”, a 20-year-old project starring Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal. Dan Fogelman’s script, known for its well-regarded dramedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love” and Hulu series “Paradise”, is being produced alongside Mike Karz of Gulfstream Pictures and Jennifer Salke through her Sullivan Street Productions.
The project began in 2004 with a novel by Bart Baker, telling the story of a man who decides to take his would-be father-in-law on a honeymoon after his fiancée’s death. The film has seen several cast changes over the years, including Paul Haggis and Jonathan Demme attached to direct earlier versions.
Gyllenhaal, an Amazon favorite following last year’s “Road House” remake success, will star alongside Costner in this new adaptation. The project reunites Karz with his Gulfstream Pictures, which produced recent Amazon films like “Upgraded” and “One Fast Move”.
With Jennifer Salke producing her first project under Sullivan Street Productions, the production marks a significant milestone for the former head of Amazon MGM. Honeymoon is set to bring together talented actors and a seasoned director in Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
