Horizon Zero Dawn MMO Canceled Following God of War and Days Gone Dev Cuts

PlayStation has reportedly canceled the long-awaited Horizon Zero Dawn MMO, following a string of live-service game cancellations including God of War and Days Gone. The news comes as part of a broader trend of Sony re-evaluating its live-service ambitions.

According to reports, NCSoft’s Pantera, H (believed to be the Horizon MMO), and J have had their development halted due to a “feasibility review.” However, it appears that developers on these projects will not be laid off, but instead moved internally. This decision may be part of Sony’s efforts to reassess its commitment to live-service games.

The cancellation of the Horizon MMO is seen as a significant setback for PlayStation’s plans to expand into the live-service market. With popular titles like Destiny 2, Fortnite, and World of Warcraft already occupying players’ time, it’s unclear whether adding more live-service games will be successful.

The move may also be attributed to Sony’s caution following the lackluster launch and subsequent cancellation of its previous live-service game, Concord. The company seems to be taking a more measured approach, focusing on single-player games that have proven successful in the past.
