Horner and Wolff Weigh In On Verstappen/Russell Clash

Red Bull and Mercedes team bosses Christian Horner and Toto Wolff have shared their views on the dramatic clash between Max Verstappen and George Russell in the Spanish Grand Prix. The incident occurred when Verstappen, who was under attack from soft-tyre runners, slid out of his position and collided with Russell.

According to Red Bull’s Horner, Verstappen initially held onto his position after Russell attempted an overtaking maneuver but later returned to his speed and pulled over, allowing Russell to pass. However, their engineer instructed him to give the place back at Turn 5, resulting in a collision between the two cars.

Toto Wolff from Mercedes expressed frustration with the incident, stating that Verstappen’s actions were unclear and made it difficult for the team to understand his intentions. He questioned whether Verstappen intentionally let Russell pass or aimed to immediately repass him.

The stewards deemed Verstappen responsible for the collision, resulting in a 10-second penalty and loss of points for Red Bull. Horner acknowledged that the incident was frustrating, leaving his team with a single point from an expected podium finish.
