Horror Film “Weapons” Scores Big at Box Office Globally

Zach Cregger’s critically acclaimed horror film “Weapons” has made a successful start at the international box office, earning $27.5 million from 73 markets and taking its global total to $70 million. The film, which also stars Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and Benedict Wong, cost just $38 million to produce.

The movie’s performance was particularly notable in several foreign territories, including the UK, Mexico, France, and Australia, where it earned significant amounts of money. This is a significant departure from the typical pattern of horror films performing better in the US than internationally.

Other new releases on the weekend include Disney’s “Freakier Friday,” which grossed $15.5 million from 46 markets, and Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which earned $17.5 million and brought its global total to $434.2 million after three weeks of release. Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” also had a strong international debut, earning $16 million and bringing its worldwide total closer to the $800 million mark.

These figures demonstrate the enduring popularity of certain film franchises, such as Marvel’s Fantastic Four and Jurassic World, which have maintained a significant presence at the box office despite recent declines in ticket sales.
