A missile fired from Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeted central Israel on Tuesday, prompting a response from Israeli airstrikes and casualties in the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military reported intercepting a missile launched from Yemen, but one struck central Israel early Tuesday morning, causing widespread panic. Despite reports of injuries from falling debris, the Magen David Adom emergency service said no direct injuries were sustained.
Israel’s military has been engaged in airstrikes against the Gaza Strip, and clashes with Hamas appear to be escalating. The Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have been attacking Israel and international shipping vessels as part of their campaign against Hamas’ presence in Gaza.
The conflict took a deadly turn when Israeli strikes hit a crowded area in Deir al Balah, killing at least six people including two young women and their four children. A pregnant woman was among the victims. The Al Aqsa Martyrs hospital confirmed the deaths, which occurred after Israel hit an area where displaced people were living in tents.
