How to Enable Private DNS Mode on Android for Better Privacy

ZDNET Recommends enabling Private DNS mode on your Android device to encrypt your web traffic, preventing ISP tracking and improving both privacy and online security. Here’s a step-by-step guide to turn it on:

To use Private DNS, you’ll need an Android device running version 11 or newer, or version 10 or older for the traditional method.

If using an Android version 11 or newer:
Download the Cloudflare app (1.1.1.1 + WARP) and install it. Open the app, and tap “Disconnected” to enable Private DNS mode.

For Android versions older than 11:
Open Network & internet in Settings, then Enable Private DNS. Add a provider like Cloudflare (1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com), Google DNS (dns.google), or other secure DNS options. Tap “Private DNS Provider Hostname” to add the hostname and save your settings.

Verify that it’s working by opening your default browser and checking for “Using DNS over TLS (DoT)” set as “Yes.”
