OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Tasks, a feature that allows users to prompt the chatbot once to carry out recurring tasks without being asked again. This new functionality enables users to automate daily tasks, such as news briefs, industry analyses, weather forecasts, and more.
To use ChatGPT Tasks, simply select “ChatGPT Tasks” from the model picker and enter a prompt detailing what task you want done and the exact cadence. You can manage your tasks from the “tasks” bar in the profile menu later on. Currently, users with Plus, Team, or Pro subscriptions can access this feature in beta, but they are limited to 10 tasks per day during the testing period.
For business professionals, ChatGPT Tasks is particularly useful for streamlining daily communications and generating emails or briefs. Karina Nguyen, a member of technical staff at OpenAI, uses the feature to check stock prices every morning by prompting ChatGPT to “check Apple stock and tell me the price” at 10 am each day.
OpenAI will collect insights from users who have access to this feature during the beta period and refine it before expanding it to all users. This is a significant step towards agentic AI, where AI assistants can autonomously carry out tasks without being prompted every time.
