Roku has launched a new streaming app called Howdy without users’ explicit consent. The app provides ad-free content for $2.99 per month and is now available on all its devices, including TVs and mobile apps.
Howdy was added to Roku’s platform in an effort to provide cost-effective access to various streaming services. However, some users might not want the app on their device, either due to memory constraints or preference for existing free alternatives like Pluto TV and Tubi.
Fortunately, removing Howdy from your Roku device is a straightforward process. To do so:
1. Start on your home screen with all tiled apps.
2. Locate Howdy at the bottom of the list, where newer apps are typically added.
3. Hover over Howdy and click the star button on your remote to select “Remove channel.”
4. Confirm the removal with Roku.
You can always reinstall Howdy if you change your mind about using it later. The app is currently exclusive to Roku devices, but its availability on alternative platforms remains uncertain.
