HP Unveils $24,999 3D Video Conferencing Device with Google Beam

HP has become the first company to launch a hardware device built with Google’s 3D video communication technology, formerly known as Project Starline. The HP Dimension features a 65-inch light field display with six high-speed cameras and adaptive lighting that creates “true-to-life” 3D video of callers.

The device is priced at $24,999 and is designed for enterprise use. It will allow users to hold calls with colleagues from other video conferencing platforms and devices, but not see their images projected in 3D. The HP Dimension also comes with spatial audio, which helps separate the voice from the body.

Google first announced its rebranding of Project Starline last month, allowing third-party manufacturers like HP to build devices with Beam. The technology aims to make users feel physically present during calls, even if they’re not in the same room.

The HP Dimension will be available later this year in several countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, France, Germany, and Japan. Companies such as Salesforce and Deloitte have already committed to using Google Beam in their offices.
